OpenStack Meetup in Athens, Greece

On July 17th we organized the first meetup in Athens, Greece. More details can be found at http://www.meetup.com/Athens-OpenStack-User-Group/events/128046962/

The attendance was over 20 people from varying areas of the greek community representing open-source developers, academic institutions, startups and enterprise.

At first we run a round of introduction between the members, giving a short profile and interests of each other’s.

Next was Thanassis Parathyras from StackMasters with the ‘Enter OpenStack’ presentation, who covered an overall view of the project’s goals as well as software development and community support aspects.

It was of great interest to hear members of the user group that are already involved in activities relative to cloud computing and OpenStack. Startup mist.io co-founder Dimitris Moraitis pointed out his product supports management and monitoring for OpenStack. Also other members mentioned efforts on implementing projects with Swift support.

The discussion that took place among the attendees was really promising for the upcoming activities of this user group. Stay tuned!

“S-Port” Research project explained…

A special meeting with focus on further explaining research project “S-Port” takes place in Athens, on evening May 15th . It is organized and hosted by the main project scientific partner University of Piraeus and specifically from Assistant Professor Nineta Polemi.

The purpose of this meeting is to further explain “S-Port” to the public and to organizations that can benefit from it. Also, up to date results on the project will be presented and participants will be called to discuss these results.

Exploring business opportunities in CeBIT 2013!

Virtual Trip CEO Dimitris Tsingos and Technical Director Thanassis Parathyras will be in CeBIT 2013 on the 8th and 9th of March in Hannover, together with the OW2 Consortium presenting the CHOReOS project.

It is an honor for Virtual Trip to be present at CeBIT for one more year. After all, “this No. 1 event for the digital world, showcase for the latest trends, driver of new business and the meeting place for all sectors of the industry!

During their presence there, Virtual Trip executives will explore ICT business opportunities, discuss details for the development of the CHOReOS project and also give a few tips on the company’s newly designed services for cloud computing.

So, finally…the VTRIPer of the Year 2012 is George Tesseris (@tesseris). It is a great moment for his career as a member of the technical team at the Virtual Trip EntrepreneurialEcosystem and StartTech Ventures Incubator.

What a year it has been for George Tesseris!

In 2012 his contribution to the company’s growth was more than just crucial.  During the year he played a significant role in implementing important domestic and international projects, for customers with key influence in markets like Banking, Media and Entertainment. While providing excellent support to his teammates, he managed to obtain international certification from Liferay. Also, George was part of our team for the development and demonstration of EU Research Project CHOReOS, helping us receive excellent feedback from the research community. And these are only a few of his achievements…

In total, his outstanding commitment and day to day efficient team participation was a true inspiration for all of us here.

We are proud for having George as our colleague and friend here at the Virtual Trip Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and StartTech Ventures Incubator. Keep rocking George!

2007: The first winner was George Dramitinos, former Director of Services Department at Virtual Trip. George had indeed a fabulous year, “driving” the company’s services with great success.

2008: Winner for 2008 was Periklis Venakis, Software Engineer at Epignosis, a company member of the Virtual Trip Entrepreneurial Ecosystem. Periklis played a major role at the very successful “eFront elearning platform” development and deployment.

2009: Lefteris Trimintzios, Senior Software Engineer at Virtual Trip, was nominated as “VTRIPer of the Year 2009”. Lefteris contribution for materializing the VTRIP vision in 2009 has been absolutely great, serving as an outstanding example of applying the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem‘s corporate values: Entrepreneurship, Usefulness, Innovation, Commitment and Quality.

2010: It was Manos Moschous’ turn to be the winner. Manos is a Co-Founder & CTO of AbZorba Games LLC and he is the driving force behind the technicalities of producing live multiplayer game philosophy. He is also the Co-Founder and CTO of MVNS. Both AbZorba Games and MVNS are companies of our Ecosystem.

2011: Thanasis Parathyras was the VTRIPer of 2011. Thanasis is the Technical Director of Virtual Trip since 2010 offering outstanding team management abilities and advanced technical expertise for the implementation of hi-tech projects.

Project SPHINX explained by Prof. Dimitris Gritzalis

SPHINX provides a robust web service in order to distinguish between human or machine Voice-over-IP calls. Mr. Gritzalis comments on the project stating that it is a complete service protecting everyday telephone users from automated calls made by machines (a.k.a. bots). He underlines the fact that after establishing the caller’s identity, the service has the ability to either accept the call (when made by human) or reject it (when made by a bot). Continue reading

Enhancing technical solutions by successful participation on research project CS-Orion

CS-Orion logoFollowing the very successful midterm review evaluation meeting with the European Commission committee on research project CS-Orion held recently at FORTH, Virtual Trip commits even further on the development of technical solutions  that refer to the second half of the project, yet balancing the project’s needs with continuous reviewing and updating of all necessary points already been reached.

Based on innovative Technical Approach, we are now focusing on the bundling of the CS-Orion algorithms and tools as a versatile and coherent software package which will prove appropriate for integration into end-user applications. Continue reading
